IEN/IEMs who have never been registered with a nursing/midwifery regulatory body
Documentation required for Phase 1:
Identification document;
Name change documentation, if applicable;
Certificate of nursing and/or midwifery education program completion;
Transcript of nursing and/or midwifery education;
Proof of language proficiency, if required in the Language Proficiency Policy, and
One of the following options:
- Verification of Nursing/Midwifery Education Program Completion Form confirming that the education is approved or recognized in the jurisdiction in which it was taken to qualify as a nurse/midwife in that jurisdiction, OR
- if applicable, proof of eligibility for the NCLEXRN, or REx-PN exams (e.g., confirmation email or screenshot), OR
- Canadian National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS) report demonstrating their education and training are Comparable or Somewhat Comparable to a Canadian registered nurse, licensed/registered practical nurse, or registered psychiatric nurse, or an Expedited NNAS from a jurisdiction assessed to be equivalent, OR
- Certificate and transcript demonstrating completion of an Ontario enhanced practice or transition program for internationally educated nurses program offered through Conestoga, Seneca, York University, or another equivalent program, OR
- Canadian equivalent bachelor/baccalaureate degree or diploma education assessment report sent directly to HSCPOA from one of the following accepted agencies:
- World Education Services (WES),
- Comparative Education Service (CES),
- International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS),
- International Credential Assessment Services (ICAS),
- International Credential Service (ICES), or
Documentation required for Phase 2:
Criminal Record Check (Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (CRJM) or Vulnerable Sector Check), within the past 12 months;
Headshot Photo, and;
Letter of Standing from an applicant’s licensing/regulatory body (if applicable and not already submitted to HSCPOA through Phase 1), sent directly to HSCPOA via email.
NOTE: Applicants who have never had any health care experience in Ontario can complete the online Orientation to Registered PSW Care in Ontario Course and gather/submit their required documentation for Phase 2 while their eligibility assessment under HSCPOA’s Recognition of Nurses and Midwives Policy is in progress.
