As a member of the Public, you are entitled to safe, quality, ethical care.
Ontarians, including residents in their homes, hospitals, long-term care facilities, retirement homes, or other health care environments can expect that registered PSWs will be held accountable by HSCPOA for their supportive care services provided.
Eligible Personal Support Workers (PSWs), are now able to apply for registration by the new – Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority.
Who We Are
The Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) qualifies applicants for registration as Personal Support Workers (PSWs) in Ontario.
While HSCPOA is not a regulatory health College, PSW registrants will be recognized alongside other health care professionals as being subject to oversight. PSWs will be on a public registry like registered nurses, massage therapists, physiotherapists, and other regulated health professionals, to enhance the public trust.
By registering with HSCPOA, PSWs are demonstrating to current and future employers and colleagues on the healthcare team that they are qualified, competent, and accountable for the supportive care services that are provided.
Background
The Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority Act (HSCPOA Act) was enacted by the Ontario government to support public protection and confidence that registered PSWs will deliver safe, competent, ethical, quality care to patients/recipients of health and supportive care services as residents, in their homes hospitals, long-term care facilities, or other health care environments.
