How to become a Registrant

There are 4 pathways to becoming a HSCPOA PSW registrant.

Select the registration pathway that applies to you to learn more about HSCPOA’s application process

Path 1

Ontario PSW Education 

Completed a program that meets the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities for a PSW certificate.

On or after July 1, 2014, completed a PSW program at an Ontario District School Board, Private Career College, College of Applied Arts and Technology, or Indigenous Institution.

Path 2

Employed as PSW in Ontario 

Employed as a PSW in the three years before applying for registration.  Your employer must meet one of the categories listed in Appendix A: Prescribed Employers in the Application Guide.

Also has at least 600 hours’ employment as a PSW, or completed a 600-hour personal support services education program, including programs outside Ontario or Canada.

Path 3

Labour Mobility 

PSW currently listed on a PSW or health care aide registry or directory in another Canadian jurisdiction.

Individuals registered with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry, Alberta Health Care Aide Directory, or Nova Scotia Continuing Care Assistant Registry.

Path 4

Competency Assessment

Completed a personal support services education program outside of Ontario* that was a minimum of 600 hours in duration.

* Internationally educated applicants with no Ontario work experience in the prevous three years, and Canadian trained applicants not eligible for registration through Labour Mobility, will undergo an assessment of their PSW skills.
