What to Expect from HSCPOA
Following consultation with relevant system partners across the province, including government, patient/family/caregivers, PSWs, employers, associations, unions, and educators:
- The government has enacted regulations establishing the minimum requirements for registration, including education (knowledge, skills judgement) experience, and competency for registered PSWs.
- The government has enacted regulations and HSCPOA has made by-laws, policies and guidance documents as a foundation for oversight of the ethical and code of conduct of registered PSWs when providing supportive care services to the public.
- HSCPOA will maintain a public register so the public/recipients of supportive care services can access information about registered PSWs and ensure they hire qualified workers.
- HSCPOA provides a standardised complaints system if recipients have concerns about the supportive care services they have received from a registered PSW.
- HSCPOA provides a dispute resolution mechanism to protect the public from potential misconduct from registrants.
