What to Expect from HSCPOA
Following consultation with relevant system partners across the province, including government, patient/family/caregivers, PSWs, employers, associations, unions, and educators:
- The government has enacted regulations establishing the minimum requirements for registration, including education (knowledge, skills judgement) experience, and competency for registered PSWs.
- The government has enacted regulations and HSCPOA has made by-laws, policies, and guidance documents that lays the foundation for effective oversight of HSCPOA registered PSWs in Ontario.
- All HSCPOA registered PSWs are held accountable for providing safe, ethical, and competent care, as required in HSCPOA’s Code of Ethics.
- HSCPOA will maintain a public register so the public/recipients of supportive care services can access information about registered PSWs and ensure they hire qualified workers.
- HSCPOA provides a standardized, fair and transparent complaints process, and mediation option, if applicable, to address concerns recipients have about the health and supportive care services they have received from a HSCPOA registered PSW.
