Assistance for Employers with PSW Employees Eligible for Registration Under HSCPOA’s Path 2: Employed as a PSW in Ontario
HSCPOA’s application Path 2: Employed as a PSW in Ontario provides two options:
- Experience Only: Employed as a PSW (or equivalent) within the past three years in Ontario and worked a minimum of 600 hours (this includes those without formal PSW education), OR
- Experience Plus Education: Employed as a PSW (or equivalent) within the past three years in Ontario AND completed a personal support services education program that was at least 600 hours including class time and practical training time. This includes PSWs who completed their education in Ontario before July 1, 2014, OR PSWs who completed personal care provider education outside Ontario. NOTE: Option B does not require 600 hours of employment in Ontario within the past three years, but the PSW’s prior PSW education must have been at least 600 hours long.
As part of HSCPOA’s application process through Path 2, the PSW applicant must submit a Confirmation of Employment and Personal Support Worker Skills Form completed by their current/previous employer within the past three years before the date of application.
Streamlined Process for Employers
Employers with several PSW employees who are eligible for registration with HSCPOA through Path 2: Employed as a PSW in Ontario, can complete the spreadsheet template here to avoid completing the Confirmation of Employment and Personal Support Worker Skills Form for each individual PSW employee.
Within the spreadsheet, employers can list the names of all the PSW employees who may be eligible for registration with HSCPOA under Path 2. The key information required by HSCPOA in the spreadsheet template includes:
- Employee name
- Contact information (e.g., email, telephone number)
- Confirmation of PSW employment and working hours, and
- Confirming the PSW employee has a set of skills that is equivalent to the expectations of a person who has completed a recent Ontario PSW education program that meets the Ministry of Colleges and Universities PSW Vocational Standards.

HSCPOA will retain all spreadsheets confidentially to cross-reference future PSW applicants with the employer lists if the PSW indicated in their application form that they work for a particular organization.
Employer Letter to PSW Employees
Within HSCPOA’s online application form for Path 2, the ‘Employer Form’ field must be populated with a document before the applicant can submit their application form. If an individual Confirmation of Employment and Personal Support Worker Skills Form is not provided, HSCPOA recommends the employer provide a letter to their respective PSW employees for upload to their HSCPOA application form. To assist employers, a template letter can be found here. Employers are free to use the letter as they deem suitable.
