Public Protection
As a member of the Public, you are entitled to safe, quality, ethical care that meets an established Code of Ethics. The Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority Act, 2021 was enacted to support public protection and to ensure that registered personal support workers (PSWs) deliver safe, competent, ethical, quality supportive care services. By registering with HSCPOA, PSWs are demonstrating to the public, current and future employers, and colleagues on the healthcare team that they are qualified, competent, and accountable for the supportive care services that they provided.
The public/recipients of supportive care services and residents in their homes, hospitals, long-term care facilities, or other health care environments will have the ability to
- Easily identify registered PSWs on the HSCPOA online public register who have met minimum education and/or experience requirements and who are accountable to HSCPOA for the provision of safe, effective, and ethical care
- Only eligible PSWs registered with HSCPOA can proudly use/wear the HSCPOA PSW Registrant ‘visual mark’ provided by HSCPOA, easily recognized by colleagues, employers and recipients receiving PSW services.
- Verify if a registrant is in good standing with HSCPOA (available soon)
- Access the HSCPOA complaints process if there is a concern about the supportive care services provided by an HSCPOA PSW registrant.
Have concerns about your care?
- If you or someone you know has concerns about a HSCPOA registered PSW’s supportive care services provided, or behaviour, you have the right to make a complaint to HSCPOA. Complaints about a registered PSW can be made to HSCPOA online, in writing, by telephone or in recorded format.
- HSCPOA cannot address complaints about PSWs who are not registered with HSCPOA.
